So I made this thread cause... well really just cause I wanted to make a thread.
I was gonna make another suggestion thread to see what you guys wanted to do to boost activity, but it's kinda... well not so much pointless as currently difficult. I'm so busy I haven't got much time to put in all the effort needed to boost activity here. I've been trying, but we have what.... 6 or 7 members on the site only 4 or 5 of whom have posted in the past month? With so few of us there's not much that can be done to boost activity. most of us ARE active. ish.
And I've sort of given up on finding more members. People don't seem to be interested in HP any more or if they are they want to rp canons or they don't like rping or whatever.
Maybe I should consider adding canons to the site? Maybe the site needs a new plot and just abandon the current one? It hasn't gotten far anyway since we don't have enough players. Maybe we should ditch a site plot all together? Even when I offered spots I got like 2 people who were interested in take part and that was it even though people kept telling me they wanted a site plot.
So revamp time? (NO we would NOT be moving. i just mean change/discard plot. new layouts. maybe redo the board set up, etc.)
I dunno. I've been considering getting rid of my characters and starting fresh. Maybe that's just what we need? A whole new start. Maybe I tried too hard to incorporate the old sites and it held back the idea of moving forward.
Ok so this wasn't meant to be a suggestion thread, but I guess that's kinda what it became. I want to let you guys decide what we do. Tell me what you want because I made this site for you guys just as much as for me and I want it to be yours as much as mine for that reason. I need to know where you guys want to go.
This isn't a 'what should we do to boost activity' this is a 'where should we take this site' thing. Should we refresh - new characters, new plots. No plot. Canons. No canons. New layouts. New site. New concept. Etc.
so... have at it. Let me know.

I know that you firmly said no to moving... Buuuut... In order for an entirely fresh start as you suggested (and I'm liking it!) having a new board might be an easier option. It is always a good way to boost inspiration, while often resulting in a great ploy to gain new members. Which we're definitely in need of!
I think that we've come so far from hmsowaw1, losing nearly every member associated with the particular site... Perhaps we should break free from it entirely? There's only four or five of us left, surely we can agree on something. I'd be very open to an entirely new board - new layout, new concept... A breath of fresh air. Of course we would keep some characters (and with the case of a new board you could leave what has been written here, and then decide what threads to move over to a new site) but having the option to discard the many inactive accounts, as well as being able to start over and decide which characters to keep... I think it's a great idea.
Now, with lacking interest in Harry Potter... Or an interest in specifically that... I think we should either add canons in and plot around what they could be up to, or just become a magical school without the tie to Harry Potter.

I like this site, I would like to stay here, but would readily move if needed. I have noticed loads of RP sites dieing out, people have lost interest I guess, or maybe we are all working too much!. I like cannos, but that opens the doors for some..problems. Because I have noticed that (and it is understandable) that people get upset or don't like how the cannon is being played.
On the other hand I like the idea of having a magical school, maybe not being Hogwarts or what not. Open ideas from other magical stories, like powers or characters. (I was a half whitelighter on one site, that was fun.) Mix and match can have it's downfalls too. But It is an idea.

I'm against canons, because it's so often that people want to play characters because of that character, not because they feel they can do them justice; and also because the canon characters usually get played by 'new people' who get tied up in most of the plots and then disapear leaving us all stuck. I know this can be said of me too, but I at least try not to get too tied up in lots of plots.
I would like to suggest that we take it away from a 'current' setting to a period setting. I dont care when we do set it, but I feel it would be better if we analyse the plot lines month by month and say "ok, we haven't actually got anywhere so no real time has passed" rather than having 3+ months between plot lines because that's how long passed between a thread starting and finishing. Personally I'd rather take a year RPing one summer if it means we get to do it properly, plus it might give us an escape from the miserable weather during the winter.
As to moving, it's a lot more work than just changing the board layout (in case anyone hasn't made one, each board and sub-board take 5 to 10 minutes to create when you write a decent description, sometimes longer). I wouldn't mind a revamp, although it does suck a little since I'm finally getting somewhere with Andrew's plot (not that I'm entirely sure where it's heading at the moment, but at least it's moving somewhere).
For actual plot lines, settings and stuff I'm not too fussed, I'll find a way around anything you throw at me eventually. Making cross-canon sites can get complicated since the same sort of thing can work differently in different settings, but creating new creatures can be fun so long as they're not ridiculously over-powered. If we are still based around a magic school then it may as well be Hogwarts, since they all seem to be much the same so the name is of little importance while we're staying away from canon. Equally we could do something like building the entire site around the Rederick plot (or similar, 2 clashing mafia families incorporating all types of supernatural creatures, and the lives of those caught up in the conflict).
In an ideal world for me I'd go for just a new site plot, maybe a few new characters to fill roles; but I think there should be an open OOC discussion on what should be happening, so that we can act upon it. That was kind of my plan with Victor, to post newspaper stories to help move the site plot along, except I wasn't sure what should have been happening at that time, and didn't have the muse or courage to make it up and get it wrong. I would like to continue the smaller plots with my current characters, but if we move away from that then I think new characters would be a good idea so as to avoid confusion.

Not to ignore everything else said, but I want to point out that creating a new board isn't too bad, I've made plenty. I'd be more than willing to help with it. Time consuming is a sacrifice I'd be willing to make - and it goes by quicker with two people.
Caiti might trust me a little bit with helping, even if I totally abandoned her and the site for awhile. *puppy eyes*

I don't know that creating a new site will solve our membership problem. Part of me believes that RPing is just not as popular as it once was, neither are HP RP sites. With that said, most of us have been doing this for a while and are 18+. I'm 21 years old now and I started RPing probably at 13? I don't even remember. Anyway, the point is that sometimes I don't feel like the RP is growing with us. Some plots are very mature...but they're being played out by 15-17 year old characters. Maybe a site plot would be more appealing if we were able relate more to it? I don't really know how we would do that, but it's an idea to toss around.
Also, I am TOO emotionally invested in the Rederick plot to let it go. I need to finish it, even if it just ends up being me and Caiti playing it out in the end.
I am also willing to help with a new site (Caiti, check you PMs).

One final request (for now, although this is more important than the rest in my eyes). Can we please have the 'keep me logged in for 6 hours' option brought back?

So um I had this idea... and I wonder what you guys think...
What if we moved the site forward and we moved away from Hogwarts... we could keep it in the Harry Potter universe so any plots here we want to keep can continue (since I too really don't want to lose the Rederick plot or Tris & Tierney...) but we'd expand on the wizarding world and focus more outside of Hogwarts' walls. I was also thinking of maybe creating a 'continuing education' school. I don't know about you guys but I've been wondering where they learn everything necessary for their jobs. They can't possibly just go from Hogwarts to the work field and take a few training courses there. There must be somewhere where they actually learn the specific magic needed for the fields they want to go into, right?
I dunno. -shrugs- so move forward a few years, maybe make a 'university' type level of schooling and focus more on the wizarding world outside school so it's maturing with us. I also think it might interest more people like that. I'm not sure of many (any) other HP sites structured like that for one thing and for another like I said it would then mature with us and the rest of the 'HP generation' so other fans who are older wouldn't feel weird playing 11-17 year olds if they're in their 20s and up.
Just a suggestion, thought I'd throw it out there.

I like the idea of that very much. I'd be game for that. It would separate from HP, while still making complete sense. Instead of abandoning the site it can be a progression.

Alright so ummm... shall we use the month of December to finish up plots and start the new year off with the new time line and such?

Is that enough time to play out at least to where we got last time with Tierney and Landon? Or at least the part where we find out she's halfblood? I really liked all of that...

Maybe not, but there's nothing to say we can't change the timeline. They don't really need to find out about that while in school and Landon can be coerced into killing someone at his work or something too.
We can see how far we get and just... alter accordingly. I mean, if we need more time then I'm ok with that too. I was just throwing out ideas.

One month to tie everything up is all well and good, but will you have the time and muse to be able to complete it? I say we see where we're at second week of January (to give us all time to recover from christmas and new years), then maybe take another few weeks if we need it.

I'm down for whatever...though, with finals week coming up perhaps after December would be best.
