Activity Checks.
I've seen a number of sites that use them to keep track of active members, keep power and position lists up to date, etc.
I was thinking of starting up monthly activity checks. Here's how I would run them:
They would start on the first of the month (or at least the first week of the month) and people would have all month to post in the thread. If they don't post their name would go on a 'warning' list. If the following month they didn't post again their play-by and powers would become available again. If they didn't post for a third month in a row I'm considering deleting the account, but I don't know, that's not really something I enjoy doing, especially if they were to come back again at a later date.
And I was also considering that you don't just pop into the thread and say 'oh hey I'm here' but you have to post a link to your most recent thread, that has to have a last post within the month of the activity check... So like if it was August's activity check I would post the names of my characters and at least one recent thread where the last post made by me was in August (or the last week of July if it's still the first week of August).
I'm hoping this would encourage people to post. I mean you don't always have to have plot threads. You can just post for the fun of it to meet new characters, etc. That's what made the first site so great, not every thread had a point. People posted together just to interact and make friends.
I feel like the site has grown apart and no one knows each other any more. I want to change that. Sooo I'm trying to encourage posting, whether it's plot related or not.
Obviously there would be some exceptions to the recent thread rules, but they would be few and far between, I would expect 99% of the time that people would be posting and not just shadowing the site. Also I wouldn't expect you to post a recent thread for every character. If you wanted to then fine, but if you have multiple characters simply listing the names of all your characters and then one recent thread would suffice. While I'd like to see that all your characters are active I completely understand how that can be difficult (since I have multiple characters of my own and not all of them are exactly actively rping). As long as I know YOU the rper is actively posting as someone on the site, I will be happy.
So what do you guys think? Yes? No? Questions, comments, concerns?
