The term Begins in September. The lessons for this term will be as follows. {This is going to be open enrollment, so just join in!} I look forward to teaching everyone this Year! Time and day of each lesson will be announced.
Astronomy Lesson Plan - The Wild Duck Cluster (M11) is an open star cluster located in the constellation Scutum. The cluster makes a great target for binocular or telescope viewing. M11 is part of the Scutum Star Cloud, which astronomer (wizard) E. E. Barnard called "The Gem of the Milky Way."
NGC 891
- Discovered by (muggle) Caroline Herschel in 1783, NGC 891 is an edge-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Andromeda. A dust lane cuts along its equator, creating the dark band seen here.
Lunar halo
- Lunar halos are caused by sunlight reflected off the Moon. This light passes through ice crystals in thin clouds in Earth's atmosphere. This light refraction generates the optical phenomena.
The Andromeda Galaxy
- The constellation Andromeda contains the ultimate northern deep-sky object: the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). This gem has nearby bright companions, including the small elliptical galaxy NGC 205. Such an object normally appears featureless, and this is accentuated by its position near M31.
Images and descriptions credit to <http://www.astronomy.com/asy/default.aspx?c=hp&id=3> we will be seeing them from a wizards perspective though and it should be very fun! More lessons to be added after the completion of these! Requests are welcome via PM.
