wand list

Wands:
To perform feats of magic a wand is usually used. Without a wand magic is possible, but this seems to be very difficult. A wand is personal for a wizard, although other wizards' wands can be used. A wand is usually made of wood and has a core of an organic, magical object or substance.
No two wands are alike. A wizard will never get results as good as their own wand, using another wizard's wand, though wizards do have the ability to use one another's wands.
Most importantly, the wand chooses the wizard.
- * Note that Items with the "*" are NOT Part of the Harry Potter series, they have been added based on other magical worlds, ideas and themes. I created the descriptions for them based on such things. If you have an idea let me know and I will try to incorporate it into the list.
Wand Wood:
Ash
Ash is a wood of knowledge, purity, and truth. It is sometimes called the unicorn tree. Ash, as its name suggests, is tied deeply with fire and lightning. It burns well when fresh and legend has it that lightning strikes ash more than any other tree. The aptly named Firebolt is made of ash wood. Ash wood is also supposed to repel serpents and protect against their bite.
Walnut
A hard wood that is strong. It is powerful and can hold a fine core. Represents a free soul, and a caring spirit.
Rosewood
Rosewood represents beauty and is known for its power concerning love and matters of the heart.
Vine
Thick sturdy wood. Known for intelligence and wit. Most suitable for precision and fine detail casts.
Oak
The oak's energy is masculine in nature – mighty, strong, enduring, steadfast.
*Hazel
The Hazel tree is member of the birch family, and is one of the sacred trees of Wicca/Witchcraft revered by the ancients and contemporaries alike. In Celtic lore the Hazel was considered a tree of knowledge, particularly in Ireland were its nuts became a symbol of great mystical wisdom. There are some 15 species of Hazel native to the Northern temperate zones and variously called filbert, hazelnut or cobnut depending on the relative length of the nut to its husk. The large cobnut variety is of the European species. This core is associated with knowledge, as well as good casting agility.
Holly
The properties of holly assure precision, so it is often used in the making of weapons. Because of this, holly is associated with combat, protection, and warding off evil spirits. Holly is also an evergreen, which symbolizes endurance. It has a long-standing association with death and rebirth in both Pagan and Christian lore, and is a symbol of Christmas, which represents the birth of the Saviour in Christianity.
Mahogany
Mahogany is an exceptionally protective wood, revered for its strength and durability. Most suitable for transfiguration.
Willow
The willow has long been associated with death and is a symbol of mourning and unlucky love; however, it also represents flexibility and wisdom. Willow wands are used to connect with intuition, dreams, visions, and deep emotions. Most suitable for charm work.
Cherry
A fine wood that is clear cut and delicate.
Hornbeam
Common to Eastern Europe, Hornbeam is also known by the name muscle-wood. It is associated with toughness and durability.
*Hawthorne
Hawthorne is deciduous and a member of the rose family. This is a strong base for a wand and adds a special touch to the wand construction. It is known for its thorny nature and quick growth. It is best for someone who is changing, and strong personality.
Yew
Yew trees have long been associated with magic and death, as they have poisonous sap. However, the yew also represents reincarnation, as the outer tree dies, a new tree grows inside. Celtic priests and priestesses regarded the yew as a symbol of immortality.

Unicorns are a symbol of purity and innocence.
Veela Hair

Very special for the phoenix are very enchanted birds.
Dragon heart-string

* Dragon's Whisker
This wand is strange and also weak. Magic is drawn more focused in the caster then in many there cores one must direct spells with greater aim, however the spells are strong when done accurately.

Hard core, and is fast to the draw.
*Cheshire Cat Hair/ Whisker
Very rare and often mischievous qualities are attributed to it.
*Pegasus Feather or Hair
The flying house can give either but both give the same gentle properties.
*Fang of a Basilisk
Rare as are the breed of animals. This makes a wand that is strong and generally potent with offensive spells.
*Hair from a Pixie/ Sprite
This is a strange wand indeed. Though a pixie and sprite are diffrent they have the same qualitys whe in a wand. They are playful creatures that make a wand that is best in social situations, not made for someone who would be dueling a lot.
*Hair from a Nymph/ Fearie
This will help spells in the accuracy of them. As it holds a strong ground since most nymphs have a real hold on the earth and reality.
* Essence of Reality
Generally only illusionists' wands have this core, it aids in creating illusions because it holds a base for illusionists to build on. The essence in this case is called on from the wand holder themself and is an extremely rare quality to have in a wand. The wand itself is hollow, the magic is held in the holder completely.

The size of one's wand does not mean too much. It is all the other aspects that make the wand great, and above all the holder. The size can range from 5 inches to 15 inches. Remember the wand choses the wizard.
*Enchantments:
Not all wands have such a quality to them. The enchantment is made by the creature who owns the wand. Depending on the creature the enchantment brings different features. This is where the creature adds something to the wand, it is not common and is often preformed by a family member.
*Fairy
Aids in charm work
*Nymph
Aids in Spell work
*Sprite
Makes spells more capricious
*Pixie
Can have unpredictable qualities, depending on spells.
*Angel
This makes the wand easier to handle, and aids in the use of more complex spells. This is the most rare of enchantments.
