Kaine hadn't realized how obvious his mood was until Corin took his hand and he looked up at the other. The Veela had obviously picked up on something, the curious expression on his face spoke in volumes.
"It's...nothing." Kaine didn't really know what to tell the other. What could he tell him? Corin wouldn't understand anything about his past or what it meant to him that the twins had just told him Lucian would be proposing to Tierney tonight. After all, there wasn't even anything he could do about it. He sighed softly.
"I think I need a drink." He really needed to try and block it all out of his mind. He didn't want to ruin the night for Corin by being absolutely miserable. Smiling softly, the Fire Demon tugged lightly on the hand Corin had slid into his own. He didn't want to stay here anymore, but he didn't want to leave Corin either. "Come with me?" He asked hopefully.

Corin smiled gently. It was pretty easy to read that whatever was bothering Kaine was hardly a "nothing"; however... if he didn't want to speak of it... the Ravenclaw wouldn't push him. It seemed like a private matter either way. "Sure." he replied before making a small face. "This place was getting kind of boring anyway."
The half-veela led them both off the dance floor and off to the side where there was a large stand for a wide-variety of food and refreshments. Hogwarts always did go overboard when it came to food. He studied an ice-sculpture that was obviously charmed to not melt. ... Just who decided to carve a blast-ended screwt anyway?
Denoting the subject of trivial, Corin made his way towards a large crystal bowl of red punch. He sniffed it lightly and was disappointed to find that it was not spiked. A little alcohol wouldn't kill anyone. The Frenchman took two goblets and began pouring drinks for the both of them. "If you'd like to tell me about this "nothing", I'd wouldn't mind listening." It was an off-handed comment, but part of him was really hoping Kaine would answer.

Kaine followed closely behind Corin as the pale blonde led them off the floor, carefully manuvering through the crowd of miscellaneous faces. He wasn't really paying attention, he was more than willing to let the half veela do his walking for him. He didn't know why but he suddenly felt really drained. He knew the twins didn't mean the news to be what it was for him, plus he'd probably have been angrier if they hadn't told him. Of course, it would've been nice to hear it straight from Lucian. He supposed the other didn't really owe it to him to tell him something like that. But he thought they were at least friends, pretty good friends too. Guys would definitely talk about something like that with one another right? Getting married? It wasn't like Kaine didn't know Lucian was betrothed. Oh, whatever, he simply gave up tonight. Why did he even care?
Kaine looked up and suddenly spotted the blonde that he'd been looking for all night. Lucian. And right beside him was his fiance, or wife, or girlfriend, or whatever it was that they nicknamed the girl in this situation. In Kaine's book the importance of it ranked somewhere between not at all and ... wait no ... just not at all. Of course that didn't stop him from having an almost literal melt down right there in the middle of the floor. Where everything else melted down but him. Only Corin's voice managed to pull him back for a split second. But only for a split second. The color of his eyes rippled in red and orange and he started off in one direction.
"Sorry, ... I'll be right back."

It didn't take too much for Corin to sense trouble. It radiated from the Slytherin's eyes to the tense line of his shoulders. The half-veela followed Kaine's gaze where he spotted another blonde couple farther off towards the dance floor. Oh... so that was it. He had the feeling that it would have to do with some kind of relationship issue.
When the other walked off, Corin's hand darted out and quickly grabbed the other's arm. "You could take care of that some other time." he suggested gently, quirking a smile. "No use wasting the night on something like that." Corin reeled the other back in and hooked their arms together once more. "If you're uncomfortable though, we could head elsewhere."
The half-veela wondered briefly if maybe he was trying too hard on this matter. Were it anyone else, the French teen would have simply let them stormed off while he easily hooked up with someone else. Acting like this really wasn't like him at all... Though, one part of him was starting to get irritated. Hopefully they could leave soon.

The Fire Demon paused.
Wait. What?
Kaine looked back at Corin and for a split second he was going to pull himself away from the Veela. But, then he realized what he was doing. Just what was he doing? Was he just about to go storming over to Lucian and Tierney? Oh, wow, not good. He could tell by Corin's face that the other boy was probably confused as well, not to mention a little put out. He wasn't thinking about his date at all.
"I'm sorry." Kaine let all his attention fall back on Corin once more, letting the other's Veela aura simply ensnare his focus once more. It was just easier that way. The demon shook his head slightly and let his hand slip to into Corin's own once more, weaving their fingers together. "I think you're right. We should go somewhere else. Just the two of us?" He offered the other an apologetic, half-smile, hoping he hadn't alienated the other boy completely already.

Corin relaxed a little as his date calmed down. He reached up and lightly brushed the other's cheekbone with slender digets, a soothing gesture his own mother used to do when he was upset. "Sounds like a good idea." the half-veela beamed before wrinkling his nose slightly. "It's too crowded in here anyway." It was clear in his tone of jest that the small lapse from before was easily forgiven.
"Did you happen to have somewhere in mind?" Corin tilted his head to the side, trying to think of places himself. It was already dark though, and due to the retarded curfew system most places had already been deemed off limits. Really, the only places that were available to them were their own rooms. ... Not that Corin minded at all.
Mm... yes, it would do well to get his companion's mind off of more troubling matters. It would serve the half-veela well too. It was that time of year after all and, despite Kaine's decline earlier, Corin hadn't entirely given up hope.

Kaine tilted his head slightly, leaning his face into the other's hand. It was a soothing touch. Corin's fingers were cool against his burning skin and he closed his eyes for a brief moment, taking a long, deep breath.
"No, no place in particular." Kaine's eyes slid open once more, looking at Corin. The Fire Demon smiled softly and lifted an arm, placing a hand over Corin's, taking the other's fingers in his own. "Come on. I just want to get out of here for a while." He tugged the other with him towards the entrance. "Maybe we can get something to eat?" Sneaking out sounded fun. They were rather dressed up though, not too many places in Hogsmeade that required this level of formality. Maybe they could just grab food from the kitchen and go back to his or Corin's common room? Too bad, if Lucian was with them they could just phase to where they wanted.
Of course, if Lucian were with him, this situation would be a lot .... different. Shaking his head, Kaine refused to let himself dwell on something that he could neither endure or prevent, so he would leave. He would be with Corin tonight and Lucian with Tierney, that was just the way things were.
Kaine moved the crowd of people in the ballroom and moved with Corin, staying close to the other untill they were in the halls once more.
"So what do you say?" He cast a curious look at the Veela.

The half-veela was relieved to be leaving the ball. It was pretty, but rather overrated. Aside from his own date, no one there was interesting at all. And, now that said date had calmed down, perhaps they could get to having some real fun.
Corin expression became thoughtful as he mulled over the suggestion. "I think I'm game." he answered with a smug look before slipping his hand away from Kaine's cheek. "I wouldn't mind leaving grounds for a bit." The half-veela linked their their arms together once more.
"Come on. The night is young." He laughed pulling them towards the main exit. "We might as well enjoy ourselves."
Besides, he couldn't help but observe that Kaine looked could use a distraction. Corin didn't really get why the other was bothering himself with something so unpleasant. The half-veela never dealt with relationship problems, so he wasn't sure of what else he could do.
Still, at least his date wasn't being overly emo about this.
