Janet was more then shocked when she got the letter that she was going to be Quidditch Captain. What on earth were they thinking? There was a lot of responsibility with that and her past was by no means a good representation of her behavior, nor her attendance. However the case may be, she was starting to feel things where finally becoming real again. Quidditch was now more then a small part of her life.
SHe had made a meeting with her doctor and discussed how hard things had been, and with the new position it was going to be tough. However she took the position, against her doctors advice. You are not ready for such a grand commitment her therapist said, just like he had told her to avoid close relationships as well.
Janet scheduled the tryouts for the new team, it was not going to be a simple day, or a simple task. It was going to be hard to decide who was on the team and not. She was not sure if she would be able to handle the idea of cutting someone from the team, and having that sort of anguish to her name. But that was better then being a crazy murderer.
Perhaps the team would be even greater because many of the other teams may be afraid that she would do something to them. After all she was the oldest student at the school, and had been nearly killed, and hospitalized in Mungos for being insane. That could give them a rather good edge on the competition, even if she would rather that stay in the past.
Trying her best to put it behind her she walked to the pitch. She rarely ever smiled, and the one she had on her face was very obviously forced. She was wearing the Ravenclaw uniform and was really proud to be there, non the less.
Tryouts where going to be all day long. Janet was tough, and to pick her team she was going to be a hard captain to please. She had set out the field with targets that moved, and had numerous quaffles and bludgers. At the entrance a large sign read:
Quidditch Tryouts: Ravenclaw
Janet had made her hair longer, tied it back and put a blue head band around just to keep it out of her face. Her broom was not the newest model on the market, (However top of the line still) and she set out numerous brooms for those who did not have any.
As students flocked to the tryouts, more then she had expected given her reputation she smiled, a real one this time.
“Welcome to Ravenclaw tryouts. Now some of you know me, and others don’t. You are going to hear a lot of things about me, and many of them are probably true. However this is about Quidditch today. And when I play Quidditch I strive for perfection. Hard work and dedication is key to the game. The tryouts are going to be long, and very hard.” Janet did not want to scare them rather she was going to tell them like it was.
“Seekers will line up over here.” She said pointing to the far right. “Those trying for keeper will be in the center here.” She said, and watched the students moving about. “Beaters, will be on the right, and chasers will stand beside me. I am a chaser this year, for to previous years I was a beater, and considered ruthless in the position. I encourage those you who may not make their desired position to try for a different one.” She had never talked this much in her entire life. Her voice was cold, and she was only lucky it had not cracked.
“Seekers, for your first portion of tryouts I will measure your flying speed. Keepers will have consecutive quaffles thrown at them, some at the same time. Save as many as you can, and never watch one go in. Chasers will be passing, each with two quaffles to start. The key to being a good chasers is not having to hold onto your broom. And Beaters will work on the targets. Each person will start with three bludgers. Don’t hit others on the team, only the targets. I have colored each to represent each player.” Janet finished, and watched a few students scurry off the field, but there where those that stayed to her surprise. The field was set out rather oddly. Up high was flags, blue and yellow ones, almost unseen to the eyes. Then between that an the ground where targets of many colors. The ground had set out cones, and rings that where similar to the goals, but now on the ground instead.
“Okay. First lets get everyone situated. When I throw the quaffle catch it, no matter what position you are playing, and say your name, year, and what you think about quidditch.” Janet said. She kicked the quaffle hard at the first person, so hard that it whistled in the air. “If you drop the quaffle you can leave the pitch.” She added as it flew toward the first person. That last part she was not entirely sure she was going to enforce, rather just use it as incentive. She had regretted saying it, because it made her sound mean and ruthless, something no one wanted in a captain. She did hope to get a good team together. She did not want to be the only captain to have no team in the history of Hogwarts, that was not what she was aiming for.
