Without a hitch? ....................Not quite. However the look was better then expected, but less then the Yule norm, at least in Annabelle’s opinion. With all the planning, and designing, not to mention decorating, she barley had any time to make her dress. Thus simple was her best selection with a fuchsia pink glitter material she made a cute one shoulder number, with a tapered bottom from one knee going down to the other ankle. Enough about the dress though, because that was sure not what others where looking at. At lest not at the moment. They opened the dance to all the students and staff no one outside the school though, so a variety was one thing but that meant more people too. Hogwarts Dance hall was like magic, and somehow held it all. So What did it look like? Red, Green and silver color themed. A giant Christmas tree in the center of the room, decorated so meticulously each ornaments looked hand placed, or better magically placed to be two inches apart from each ornament, white lights hitting the gold and green ornaments, and the silver tinsel was like heaven. The tree looked great, below it were very small boxes, each closed, and only one held a prize in it, but that was for later in the night. The prize? It was the rest of their budget, yes they where under budget… The ceiling was decorated with Junipers magic, a starry winter night sky, with a full moon similar to the magic in the great hall, but the stars twinkled sliver, green and red in a wonderful pattern, not to fast and not too slow, in Anna’s opinion of course. The walls? Snow covered by the looks of things, one corner had snowmen, traditional and stand still, magically secured from tampering too. Did not want any rouge snowmen hitting the strange… Getting a student band was hard indeed. Janet looked terrible frantic in the last days but they managed to get some enchanted instruments, and volunteers to play. Karaoke style was art of the gig, but the instruments would play all night, singing however was the students or staffs job! Anna was still a bit hesitant to the students taking to a more classical take on music, but They had freedom to mix it in with their own styles too. That was on the front wall, she wanted it to be up front where everyone could see it, the food tables in the back. Long tables up to the point of the Christmas tree had white table cloths on them, and about a foot in each had a red, white or green candle burning in the center. These too had magic so that they would not burn anyone, and in fact stay lit all night. Buffett was a little to much for the Elves, some of the students ate too much and lets face it that could be messy. So Classy was in so each place was set with a large green dish, followed but a light sliver one, smaller on top, then a green bowl. Four courses, Soup, salad, entrée, dessert. Two options on each Soup and entree, just in case the elves had no problem with that either. Soup was a simple thing to make, and said any extra could be stored for the following day’s meals. Soups:
- Christmas Soup which has kielbasa, garlic, kidney beans, chicken broth, red potatoes, kale, and some seasonings.
- Thai Coconut Vegetable Soup Recipe was the vegetarian choice, also held to most dietary means too. It has onions, garlic, carrots, chickpeas, cumin, olive oil, coriander, cayenne, tomatoes, coconut milk, vegetable broth, lime juice and salt with basil to taste.
Salad
- Winter Fruit Salad with Lemon Poppy seed Dressing was the choice here, and the dressing was made on the side just in case. It included Onions, Romaine and Iceberg lettuce, Swiss cheese, dried cranberries, apples and pears (both peeled). The dressing was a combination of sugar, lemon juice Dijon-style mustard, olive oil and of chouse poppy seeds.
Entrees
- Maple-Glazed Ham With Raisin Sauce was the first traditional option. It was served with mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and steamed peas.
- Vegetable Pasta Alfredo was choice two. Farfalle (bowties) noodles, tossed with peas, carrots, and broccoli all in a light garlic Parmesan sauce that was toped with a tomato bruschetta in the center, and fresh shredded Parmesan on the sides.
Dessert
- Chocolate Creme Brulee is a chocolate lovers paradise, and because not everyone likes chocolate sugar cookies where also available too. However the Brulee had cream, milk, vanilla, chocolate, egg yolks and sugar. Simple and complete it was served with a light vanilla cream sauce , whip cream and a cherry all dusted with powdered sugar.
The selections where made at the door before seating, where they received a small place card with their selections on it. This was also their card for their prize selection number a the end of the night. Yes, Anna was working the door for at least he beginning of the night. Professors and students where sitting together all at the same tables, with no restrictions on seating. Like in the great hall. Decorations, food, music… Security was hard, but she had plenty of professors volunteer to work on protection spells, and even hired two ministry Aurors, which cut Their budged the most. Thus opting for the small decorations. Thus the evening was to begin. The nights list, posted on the doors in a scroll what was glowing with magical colors of green silver and red. 4:00 PM doors open 5:30PM Food is served 7:00PM Karaoke open! 7:00PM Dance floor open 11:30 Prize selection and announcement 12:30 Have a great evening At the moment it was 3:50PM and Anna stood at the door in her dress, the others from the committee working on their last minute things. She had a table set up with a smaller version of the evening’s planned events, and then the place cards. Which had check boxes that she should check, each card had a number on the back. Depending on the number was when they could select their box from under the tree. They all had a ornament in them, except one that had ten galleons in it! The prizes where not announced though, that was a surprise! And thus, with now only five more minutes, students, she hoped, would arrive. And even better they could not get past with out talking to her! She was going to really get acquainted with the students now! No more new girl! (ooc: Lets get this party started! At points I will post, dinner is severed and karaoke open. as well as prize starting. I know what number will win so, luck of the draw people! more that join the better! ANd be sure to see Anna for your number and food card!)

The meetings had been worse than hell, but in the end, the dance looked like it was going to be a success. The meals were planned, the lights were lit, the decorations gleamed and sparkled. Tierney waved her wand and adjusted an ornament on the tree, tipping her head to the side and checking the view. Nodding, she turned to the rest of the room and sighed deeply, glad to be done with the decorating aspect.
Her eyes traveled down to her tight-fitting red dress to make sure it wasn't wrinkled or messed up from the work - she had worn it ahead of time so she could just finish up decorating and be there at the ball, rather than having to leave and change. She did however have to fix her makeup and hair, but that was easy enough. She reached into a concealed pocket on her hip and pulled out a small compact mirror, then with a wave of her wand and a glance in said mirror she pinned up her hair and touched up her lip gloss and shadow. Content with the effectiveness of her simple style she slipped the mirror back into her pocket and adjusted her dangling earrings before heading toward the doors.
The clock had just struck 4 and the doors had opened, letting in a small stream of expectant students. She smiled as she saw a lot of younger students look around in awe, the older ones in something closer to approval. There were a few who looked unhappy or indifferent, but it seemed the general population liked things so far.
Try as she might, her eyes scanned the crowd and though she attempted to deny it, it was clear that she was searching for Landon. She knew deep down that that was exactly the face she wanted to see. Just so she could roll her eyes in disgust at his playboy ways and the odious Victoria clinging to his arm though of course.
She managed to pry her eyes away (with much difficulty) and busy herself with a snowman whose freeze charm was weak and thus beginning to melt around the edges. Tapping her wand and sighing she strengthened the charm and muttered to herself, "I swear, people just don't put enough effort into their spell work these days! Lazy and incompetent, the lot of them." She didn't really feel that way, but her nerves - every time they made her jittery and a little unstable. She'd rant about anything to take her mind of her damn nerves.
It was even more difficult without Lucian there. At least if she had Lucian at her side she'd have... well, as horrible as it sounded, something to rub in Landon's face. He hated Lucian for whatever reason and he hated whenever Lucian and Tierney were together so if he had been there it would have been great. Instead, she was left on her own to suffer through the dance, most likely occupying herself with fixing decorations and other issues.
And her dress was completely wasted! Oh well, that was the story of her life right now...

The Yule Ball. One of, if not the, biggest social event of the year at Hogwarts, and once more a time of potential embarrassment. Thankfully the male 7th year dormitory was abandoned, save for Andrew, as he tried to decide what to wear. He wasn't having the same problem as most of the female students were no doubt having, male wizards had a different sort of clothing issue. Dress robes or not dress robes. If he wore dress robes, he'd look like a prat. Everyone always did in dress robes - they were hideous, and no man would be caught dead wearing them if he didn't have to. There lay the problem, if he didn't wear dress robes, and everyone else was, he'd look like a prat for not wearing them. A similar dilemma was occurring at that moment, if anyone were to come up to the dorm room and see him they'd laugh, and half the house would have heard how much of a woman he was by morning, but he would have liked to have known whether or not any other 'Puffs were going to be wearing dress robes.
Cursing under his breath, he stowed his dress robes back in his trunk and removed his Tuxedo from the hanger. Smart occasions always called for smart dress, or so his sisters had insisted on drumming into him, and so when they had given up on forcing him into dress robes for every formal event, they had made sure that he had the closest equivalent that he would agree to wear. He lay the clothing out flat on his bed, waved his wand at it and the few small creases they had gained in the wardrobe were instantly smoothed out. He carefully changed into the clothing, attaching the clip on bow-tie to the top button before sliding on the jacket, and then looked in the mirror to make sure everything was perfectly neat. That was the problem with magic, there were no excuses for missing perfection. He waved his wand at a small box tucked under his bed, and it slid out revealing a pair of smart black shoes. With another wave of his wand the hopped out of the box, then glinted with a newly polished shine. Careful not to scuff the shoes, or crease his trousers, he put the shoes on and mentally prepared himself to head to the dance hall.
He felt like a prat, he looked like he was about to go to a black tie celebrity party, but he still felt like a prat. Admittedly he would have felt worse if he was wearing his dress robes, but he still felt like he was over dressed for the occasion. It would do, he could always remove the tie later. He could leave the jacket over the back of a chair as well, but he probably wouldn't seeing as the best place to keep his wand in that outfit was the inside jacket pocket. Deciding that there was nothing else he could do with the outfit, to make it either smarter or less ridiculous, he slid his wand into said pocket, cleared away the clothes he had changed out of and the hangers, and headed down to the common room.
The common room was empty, which didn't surprise him when he checked the time. The hall was about to open, so the early arrivers would already be long gone, and those going for fashionably late still had time to prepare. He sighed, there was no sign of movement coming from either of the dormitory staircases, which meant that he would have a long wait if he decided to see if anyone else was going to head down. He looked toward the girls dorm for a few heart beats, hoping that Tris would appear at any moment, but with no luck. He had written out a note earlier, and instructed a first year to leave it somewhere that she would find.
Tris,
I am going to the Yule Ball this afternoon, and would like very much to see you there. It would give us a chance to catch up, and if you do make it I promise to save you a dance.
Andrew
The wording of the note had felt awkward to him, he wanted to convey how much he wanted to go to the ball with her, but didn't know if that would have been weird, since they were just friends. That felt more like a 'by the way, I'll be there, and if you aren't it's cool, but if you are maybe we could hang out'. He felt like such a loser right now, pinning hopes on someone going to the ball with him that he hadn't even asked properly, and to add to it if she didn't show up he would be spending the evening alone. He probably would have asked her properly, had he seen her, though he still would have made it out as if he was asking as a friend rather than a proper date. He was seriously fucked up, his brain knew it, his heart knew it, and eventually he was going to screw up somewhere. They hadn't seen much of each other recently, and a part of him wondered if he had already messed up, or if it could get much worse for him if he did try not move further than just friends. He quickly quieted those thoughts, and taking a deep breath to compose himself, walked out of the common room and up to the dance hall.
As Andrew reached the corridor leading to the dance hall, he began to hear the rabble of excited first and second years. The wonder was never lost on the older students, they just tended to realize that they could be a little late without missing anything. As he turned the corner he could see the line of students, mostly first and second years as he had suspected, although a few older students were also present, all slowly filing into the dance hall. The list of times for the event was just about visible over their heads, set on the door where he had seen it earlier that day, and it had now started glowing green. The queue seemed to be stopping and starting, so that everyone could say hello to a greeter it looked like.
As he came closer to the line his attention was drawn back to the schedule as it turned red, and he saw the third item on the list, something else he had been dreading about the evening. Karaoke. Andrew couldn't sing, and he knew it, worse than that was singing in front of people, and usually being given a song he didn't know, or given the choice of five songs he didn't know. Oh well, too late now. He thought as he stepped into line behind a fourth year. From here he could clearly see why the line was moving so slowly. Stood behind a desk next to the door was a chatty young girl, whom he had briefly met at the sorting ceremony before everything had become too noisy and hectic for them to talk properly. Any other person he might have forgotten after such a brief meeting, but her bright pink hair was so unique it was unforgettable. There was no one else around that he recognized, and he certainly couldn't see Tris in the queue.
Andrew purposely tried to avoid looking through the door while he was stood in line, he knew from previous experience that the true wonder of any event at Hogwarts was much better viewed in it's entirety, and sneak peaks would just spoil it, but as he reached the desk he couldn't not see it, and it looked amazing. "Wow." He said, slightly taken aback. "That looks stunning"Turning to the girl behind the desk, he added "Annabelle, wasn't it?" and he smiled at her. He had just about managed to put a name to her face, or more her hair, and probably wouldn't have managed it if he hadn't spotted her name on the poster asking for volunteers for the committee.

Anna watched as her fellow committee members had worked on their finishing touches. Annabelle hoped that she had enough of everything going on. So she smiled greeted the people and laughed talking to many of the younger students that had came early. It was nice to have the whole school able to attend, no limits on age was a good thing in her head, even though she knew by the end of the night it was likely still going to be separated, it was a great chance for all the students to get to know each other a bit more.
Smiles all around as complements came in, awe was struck by one and contempt by others. She did regret having to be a greeter, only because there was so many people she felt like the line was being held up too much. However it was important to stick to your plan, at least that were Anna’s thoughts on the matter.
“Thanks, the committee worked super hard to get it all ready. Have you seen the menu, you have a couple of selections to make, just check off on the box next to the item you like, and keep your card for the prize drawing. You do have to be here to get a gift.” She said with a smile, the same thing mostly to all people coming in, she sometimes gave suggestions on the food, and even more she hid the prize ideas well too, no one really knew what was in them.
She was perky, polite and more so happy, a great person to be a greater, but it could get rather annoying soon enough. She just hoped that her committee members would still talk to her after it all. Her upbeat personality sometimes did put a damper on things, strangely enough.
Then someone she had slightly remembered. However his name… missing her mind completely. How bad she was with her memory! “Oh, yes, call me Anna. Did we meet before? I am sorry my head is filled to the brink and can’t remember at the moment. I hope you forgive me.” She said too fast for ease, but then again that was her at many times. Being so set in the pattern she went right on in with the card with the menu selection a number on the back of the card, and a pen set up, though she knew older students would be using their magic to check a box, she was a fan of the pen, less dangerous…
“Oh, and be sure to sign up for a karaoke slot if your interested too.” She said with a smile, they had a sheet that had been set near the music for names, and a song choice, the instruments bewitched to perform a good variety of music, if it could not play a song it would erase the song from the list until you had one it knew. Another one of the professors got that charm working good.
“You look very nice by the way.” She added to the boy, man? In front of her. Getting older she was unsure what to say, boy, man, girl woman, at what point is it different? All well her own mind wondering was one thing that happened all too often. However her dress only a slightly darker shade then her hair, a bit more of a purple tone underlying it was making her smile still. It was so nice to get out of the school robes and really dress up.

Why on earth had she gone through all this? Perhaps to get herself more involved, maybe to get a better recognition for the team, or even to emerge herself in the petty lives of the teenager world that she was always trying to be a part of. Regardless she had joined, and assigned a task, that was by no means fun or good. The meetings, well sucked. Not fun, annoying and demanding of time Janet had to work around the clock to get the music she did.
Enchanted instruments from the school was the best, and easiest to find but making them work was another thing. Classical dull music where programmed into these things, which she accepted for perhaps the dinner portion of the evening, but clearly not part of the dance. Upbeat fun and hip music was what the students wanted. So she had to find, and in a sense program the instruments to play some of the top hits of the time, muggle and magical music.
From Trenity and the harpers to Brittney Spears she had programmed A few rock, rap and pop muci into them, which after some trial and error was not so hard after a while. Setting them up in the Room of Requirements, and having the music playing around them was step one, getting all the muci and keeping everyone out of the room was another thing. Any missed note or sound would tamper the process. So for nearly a week before the dance the room was blocked off from one way or another because Janet was using it non stop, even during classes she had it going, music playing hoping that nothing would go wrong.
And of course it did, stupid people did not take the warning, so she sure hoped no one wanted to sing anything form Greg mark and the fangs because, it was all warped into some strange melody as two songs mixed into one and it was not very good.
Next the sign up sheet she had to hunt down a professor who could enchant it to hold all the songs she had programmed, oh how fun that was…
After all said and done she had to make sure that the instruments where taken care of, and that they where not damaged, great more responsibility… She barely even had time to get a dress, in fact she cheated… She used magic to get one. Something she had been doing rather well at not using any magic, she took one of her old dresses from her… hinting period of life (yes, she happened to wear some nice clothes too). What it had been was irrelevant, and not acceptable at any school function… Thus bring up a neckline, lengthen the skirt and closing up the slit she had a very nice violet dress. She added quarter length sleeves to it. A v-neckline that flattered her figure, the dress flowed down smooth, the bottom from the waist down had a slight flare to it, and it had some glitter to it, the top was a plain fabric. Black shoes, and her hair curled into a light wave.
She felt pretty, but out of place too. Sweater and jeans type of girl this was a bit out of place for her, the new found sporty type these days it was a slight remembering of the past… But strangely nice.
Tris checking last minute decorations Janet could care less, as long as her part was done. Anna already at the door, why had she ever let that girl talk her into this? The pink haired wonder seemed more then at home there greeting everyone. Janet was glad that she did not get pegged with something lie that. She just wanted this night to be over.

Matt stood in front of his mirror in his new dress robes. His mother had sent them. Luckily they weren't his dad's old ones or something. That would just be embarassing. Her dad had sent him something as well, his lucky little wolf pendent. He couldn't believe he had sent it to him. His dad never took it off. It had been his father's, and so on. Matt clutched it for an extra dose of courage. He had never been to a dance before. But he was sure Janet would talk to him, and he was sure that Annabelle would need extra help with things. He tucked the charm back into his shirt, flipped his hair out of his eyes, and headed down to the Dance Hall to see everything that was going on.
As he walked, he was silently glad this would mean an end to the awful meetings. They weren't that bad, but everyone had been doing a million things at once, and he had become easily overwhelmed at times. But then someone would do something funny, and it would make the stress dissappear. There had never been a dull moment during meetings, well, for him anyway. He was just glad they had accepted him, and he was glad that they had needed his help.
He entered the Dance Hall, and instantly picked out Annabelle, with her pink hair. Matt walked up to her. "Hey. I can't believe everything turned out this nice." He said smiling. At one point, he had thought that nothing was going to get finished, but everything had come together nicely. "So, need help with anything?" Matt asked. He noted the other comittee members checking on last minute things, but he wanted to make sure that Anna didn't need anything before he went around to everyone else, or started on a task of his own.
He did feel rather out of place here. He felt too dressed up, from his usual jeans and t-shirt, but it was a start. Matt couldn't wait for the night to begin. He pushed away his nervousness. And he was very thankfull his mom had picked a light material for his robes. With his elevated body temperature, the normally heavy material would suffocate him. He was a little too warm, but it felt good compared to the chilly, winter feel of the room.

Matt ventured his way over to her and she smiled, it was till odd to think either of them on the committee. She did not like this glitzy affairs to be frank about it, she really did not even want to go to this dance, well with what happened to the last one she went to… “Looks like things are turning out well enough.” She said looking around. A lot of work went into this but it looked like it was an instant thing to outsiders. Janet wondered how the school usually did these things, and if a committee would be used again after this. She guessed that it would all depend on how the night progressed.
Minutes flying by into long strides as she dreaded the karaoke night. As her part she had to start things off, how she regretted this more and more. Anna had said that it would liven up the party, and get people into it. And so Janet agreed to sing first, how terrible it was in her head.
“Nope, not that I can tell. I think everything is all set.” She said seeing Anna talking up a storm at the door. “Well if she keeps talking over there, this night is never going to get started.” Janet gave a slight chuckle. Over the meetings they all learned how much Anna could talk, and she did on and on and on…
“Anyway. Oh, is your friend going to be here?” Janet asked, remembering that he spoke fondly of one person in particular on occasion. She had not meet this person, and did feel right seeking someone out either. Perhaps she would finally knew who it was that kept Matt on his feet sort of speak… She wished she had someone like that.

(just moving it ahead a bit, but not stopping anyone from still entering.)
The night was progressing well enough. After all everyone was in, well some stragglers came in late, but Anna had abandoned the door, a note with the cards said to make their selections prior to sitting. She had to take time to mingle! After all dinner was going to be served in ten minutes she got up to the karaoke stand, the music stopped playing and she stood there, waiting a bit.
Should I use the voice spell?” her thoughts where not leaning toward it, but it would have been more effective. Once silence, or some what silence came over the group she smiled. “Welcome to the Yule ball!” she yelled putting here hands up to get some cheers. “I am Annabelle Grace and the head of the committee this year. I am so glad that everyone could make it out tonight. As I saw you each at the door you should make your food selections, the house elves have prepared such great choices tonight.” She said looking quite in her own right.
“Before we eat however it is time to thank the committee that made this all possible!” she said with a smile. She turned around and pulled out boxes from behind a table that instruments where on. “Tierney Harper & MacKay Hountly” She said holding two boxes, small could not have been much in them, and that was true. Coupons for free ice cream where not that exciting, but that was the deal here. “Thank you for all your help in making this night a success.” She said handing off the gifts, and giving hugs.
“Janet Numan, great job on the music. Don’t forget that karaoke is open at 7, and Janet is going to get the night started!” she said, handing her a box that had a coupon for quidditch supplies.
“Professor Primrose helped design this lovely menu with the house elves,” she said giving her a winter flower, yes one flower… she went thought the names on the list that joined the committee, then thanked “Matt Adams, for giving support of the committee.” Yes that was good. Took about five minutes to get that thru with.
“So now I am going to ask that everyone takes their seats because the house elves will be serving us this evening’s first course in a few minutes.” She said with a smile. The house elves where coming out of hiding, Juniper had to do some good convincing. “Thank you and enjoy your evening!” She said stepping down and letting the music return playing.
The fluttering heart one gets when talking to a crowd was not there for Anna, she was glowing with happiness and was excited that the evening was running smoothly so far.

Matt walked over to Janet, picking his way through a large crowd of students, trying to taking everything in and quiet the dull roar of everyone talking at once. He could hear things the normal students couldn't, smelling, and seeing every little detail that no one else could. It was kind of nice, being special. But he was a lycan, to most people he was a freak. Which is how he saw himself at times. But this was a new year, and he was going to stop thinking like this. He was going to embrace being a lycan, or most parts of it anyway.
"Okay." He said smiling. "Yeah. That's Annabelle though. I don't think the girl every stops talking." Matt shook his head chuckling. Janet brought up Airan. "I don't know. I don't think so." Matt sighed. They hadn't seen a lot of each other lately, and they had talked about just being friends, so there wasn't any pressure. It was still confusing to him. "I wish you could've met him though." He told her, regaining his smile. Matt didn't want to ruin this wonderful night.
Then Annabelle began talking and thanking everyone. His cheeks flushed slightly as his own voice was named, for giving support. Then she announced dinner was served. "Mind if I sit next to you?" Matt asked a bit hesitantly. He'd rather be polite, than just sit next to her. But he really didn't know anyone else well enough to sit next to them.

Andrew looked down the menu, trying not to hold up the queue too long. He quickly read through the descriptions of each dish, neither of the soups seemed particularly appetizing to him, so taking a pen from the desk he marked next to the Christmas soup and hoped for the best. The maple glazed ham, on the other hand, was almost making his mouth water just by reading the description, and knowing the House Elves, it would taste as delicious as it sounded. "Briefly, at the start of the year, I'm Andrew." He said, when Anna asked if they had met, "Thanks, you too. Hope you have a great night." He added after she complimented him, then he moved into the hall to let the rest of the queue make their selections.
Inside the hall, the decorations looked even better than outside, but that was always the way. The ceiling was enchanted in such a way that you couldn't tell how high it was, and that also made it impossible to be seen from outside, and today it was the ceiling that completed the look of the room. The open sky was beautiful, and the stars sparkled between the same colours as the rest of the room, even managing to change in time with everything else. Andrew was stunned, to say the least, and slightly speechless.
Looking around the room, everyone there seemed to be talking to someone, some just stood with a friend or date, and others in groups of varying sizes. The only person in the hall he recognized was Janet, but she was busy talking to someone else, and Andrew didn't think she'd noticed him. Plus she was stood in one of the boy-girl pairs, and he'd hate to interrupt anyones date inadvertently. There was one other person stood on their own, a girl wearing a tight fitting red dress was facing away from him, and seemed to be having trouble with a snowman by the stage.
Andrew decided to go and say hello to her, and offer his help if needed. By the time he had reached her, the girl, or more young woman as he realized, had easily sorted out the problematic snowman and was now turning back to the rest of the hall. Deciding to go and say hello, and deciding what to say, where two different things, he realized as he got half way to the girl, and had to start thinking on his feet - not something he was good at. "What's a vision of beauty such as you doing unaccompanied at an event like this?" He asked as he got to her, the best he could manage on short notice. He knew it sounded bad, and that the girl would probably try and find some way to lose him, but at least from that start he had a way that would make him seem less cheesy, or at least he hoped it would. He only actually wanted was some company for the evening, and the girl looked like she could use some too, at least until someone either of them knew showed up. The trick was getting that across to her without seeming either whiny or like he pitied her for being alone.

Janet did manage to smile even though she was nervous as all hell about singing first, and being in front of the whole student body, quidditch was totally different, tough and strong. This was like going into battle with no gear, granted the girl did still have a dagger hidden well, and her wand hidden too. Precaution was always good to have. Being on the committee was possibly a good thing, seeing as the aurors would have discovered a concealed weapon on her. Some sort of scanning that she herself suggested.
However as Annabelle went on and on Janet did feel, nervous, she never did, ever. She flashed back into the moment though as Matt spoke again after Anna finally finished up. “Yea sure, that is fine.” Janet said felling a bit unusual, no one sits with her on a regular basis, and generally she was avoided… Her past did precede her in many cases… “I am sure sometime I will, have one more term left here. Plenty of time” she added about meeting his friend. She kept the curiosity to herself; after all he spoke of Airan being a key drive back to the school it was still good that he decided to come back. She decided to sit at the third table, “How this?” she asked taking one of the seats, at the moment people where moving about, she just took an open seat, pulling out her card from her sleeve. Her selections on it she placed it on the table.

So the meetings where a bit to handle, but this professor was ready for just about anything, and accepted things just the same. Often the voice of, well nothing really, as she often went to the less then understood ideas and phases that few thought she was completely there at times. However she still did a great job at her part, there was no doubt to that. Juniper was in a corner overseeing things not looking like a professor at all.
At 25 years old she looked like one of the students with her make up, blonde hair with purple and green highlights that matched her dress. Medieval feel to it the top was much like a strapless light green corset, laced in the back with dark green lace, the flowing floor length skirt was frilly and purple and green layers, giving her a perfect hourglass figure. Green heals matched the lace, but you only saw them when she walked as the skirt went down to the floor, dragging a bit.
Dress is one part, but that was only half the fun for the evening, after all the festivities did look like it would prove to go well. She did not want to interfere with the students too much, after all she was a professor, and someone that they did not hang with at any real time. Juniper had a few experiments to work on at home too, while the evening would be fun, she was looking forward to breaking the spells on some of the dark items she had recently purchased. However with things in the ministry she had to be a bit more careful, she was going to make just a few more trips until things settled down a bit, the Ministry had posts out in Knockturn quite often these days.
That aside she smiled as young Annabelle made her speech, she clapped along with the rest of the students and staff and smiled at how well the students did at the challenge in hand.
And so Juniper had to take a seat, and did not think to hard selecting a seat near the middle, not picky but wishing to be around others to discuss and chat would be ideal. She did enjoy conversation. Her own place card out on the table as many others had done she smiled enjoying the evening, it was a nice set up, free sitting, all together was a good way to connect with everyone student or staff.

Anna was going to really enjoy this, having helped select the food she actually wanted all of it, but settled for her choices. It was a few minutes after everyone took their seats that house elves, came out with their meals, first course. They where truly amazing at it, fast quick and gone, she barely had time to utter a thank you as her food flashed so fast. However that was their way, and she was not going to question their methods, plus after the dance was all said and done she would properly thank them again. Without them this night would not be so bright.
“Oh, that is a good choice.” She said to the person on her left, their soup choice was the opposite of hers. She had gotten the Thai coconut soup, because it was something different and very unique, plus she did not have all that big amounts on the meats. Kielbasa was one of those things she really had to be in the mood for, and even then it was not her favorite, but variety and trying something new was always good.
She took a taste and was mesmerized by all the flavors rolled into one. Needless to say, that once chatty girl took the time to enjoy her soup. It would be quite a nice dinner if she could say the least. So about 45 minutes in, some had salad and some still had soup, which was okay, but she had hoped that it would be all together. However she was not going to push into that at all, however the house elves handled it was going to be good for her. It looked as if once they finished their first they brought the next one out, so it worked regardless.
Anna got the glazed ham, something of a family tradition for her to have ham on Christmas holiday. It was very good, and melted in her mouth, which was just proving how talented those elves really were. She of course took her time, and with each bite tried to bring into conversations around her, and she felt like the night was going very well.
Looking at the time, she smiled, the rest of the nights activities where underway soon enough, and Janet would start out the karaoke portion. That still had a half an hour, and most people where getting their desserts about now, some had finished and just sat talking and others had moved around to the dance floor talking. The timing seemed to be working well so far, and it is not like they had to wait for everyone else to do anything.
Chocolate crème Brulee was to die for, if you’re a girl who loves her chocolate. It was moist and decadent but man did she eat way to much! Perhaps this four-course meal was not such a good choice, or she just should have eaten less, made smaller portions? A deep breath and she knew it would soon fade away. All that was left as for Janet to take the stage, she sure did hope that she was not nervous.

Janet was ready to get the night over with, and eating was really not all that exciting for her. Yes Anna and Professor Primrose worked with the elves to prepare this, and yes she had gotten far better with them making her food, but she did not have a easy feeling. Perhaps it was the fact that in two house she would have to sing for her fellow students, that in itself was not making her feel all that great. “What Soup did you pick?” she asked Matt, she had sleeved the veggie choices, with her new life she had decided to go vegetarian. Somehow she just felt differently about things. The soup was nothing special, cold and drab she moved it about in her bowl a bit, took a sip here and there. She had her eyes out too, always on watch it seemed. “How do you like it?” she asked next, sure it was a bit boring but she was indeed feeling a bit off, it was to be expected too. She had to sing… she wanted to scream. All Matt would properly hear in her thoughts where her rehearsing the lines of the song she was to sing. ’ Follow the kicks and punches with the rest Rearrange the furniture hoping it would make more sense…’ to other songs too as she was slotted for the first three songs, that was Annabelle doing, ”you should do a few, that way it will ease up everyone into it. I will totally do it too, no worries.” well Anna’s name was not yet on the sheet. Of course. Salad had arrived without her even noticing, It looked… fresh. The dressing was utterly disgusting, but the overall salad was not bad, she had even managed to put thoughts of tampering to the back of her head. If she was going to eat one thing well this would be it she guessed. ’Fern Dell, Fern Dell, I thought I knew you well’ the song running in her head. She had ran through the song four times in the two courses, if anyone was in her head, they think she was slightly mental. Focusing on her first some she had to worry about the other two she had to sing too. Was it so much to be singing an original? At least if she screwed them up no one would know, plus she programmed the instruments so she had that perk. So she was going with her own song for her second song, something she was really scared to sing, because it was deep. Third song was fun and funky, to liven up the night, all of chouse Anna’s thoughts, make your last son hop. Her mind was a race of concern worry and fear, yes real fear. Something she did not show much of, her demeanor was well enough. “Are you going to sing?” she asked as the night drew on, she sure hoped she did not get stuck being the one woman band, that would not be fun… then again perhaps they would not like her and she would only have to do one song? Maybe that was why she went with the son Fern Dell. Unknown, folksy and simple as her first choice. Regardless she had one more course to get things right… ooc: I will post the music (moving the night foward) in my next post, please please lets get this thread kicking!

{OOC: Well, since T-chan is my charie anyway Imma god-mod her in this post because I don't feel like making two. Deal with it.}
Tris,
I am going to the Yule Ball this afternoon, and would like very much to see you there. It would give us a chance to catch up, and if you do make it I promise to save you a dance.
Andrew
Tristise sighed and looked down at the note again, skimming over it, but not really reading it this time. She didn't want to go to any ball, with Andrew or not. Not because she was angry or bothered by Andrew or anything, just because she was in no mood to socialize - period. Still, he was the closest thing to a best friend she had and she hadn't seen him in ages. She felt slightly guilty and unfortunately that guilt made up her mind.
Huffing, she opened her trunk and reached in, yanking a dress bag from the abyss of wizard space. She tossed it on the bed and went fishing in the dark again for her shoes. When she had them both out she opened the bag and pulled out a stunning silver number, smirking at it coldly. Her older sister had bought it for her, much like a number of her other dresses, but this one she said was more sophisticated to fit Tris' age - she was graduating this year after all.
Without much desire to, Tristise stripped and then slipped into the dress, zipping it up and adjusting it to her curves. She stepped into over-the-knee stockings and her shoes, twisted her long blonde hair up into a simple silver clip, and dusted a light silver eyeshadow over her lids. She wasn't going to do much else, but the shadow looked odd alone so she added some eyeliner and then tucked her wand into her stockings. Nodding at herself curtly in the mirror she headed out the door.
When she got to the dance hall she snuck in with a gaggle of first years to avoid talking to whoever was at the door about anything. She wasn't interested in getting food or any other activities they had planned. She was only here because she felt guilty for ignoring her friend. And she secretly liked dressing up a bit.
As she entered the hall she glanced around and almost instantly found Andrew, it was what she did. She raised an eyebrow as she started toward him, noting that he was talking to Tierney. As she came within earshot she overheard the conversation, almost snorting as Andrew pulled a line on her childhood best friend and Tierney fought hard not to snicker as well.
"Oh, just hoping for a handsome young man to come and whisk me off my feet!" Tristise smirked at the joke, but then frowned as she noticed Tierney's eyes dart around the room... and land on her. Tierney's 'smile' fell slightly before picking back up and at that moment Tristise knew. She knew. Tierney had been looking for Landon and she got caught in the act. Tristise should have been upset, but she just couldn't manage it. In fact, quite the opposite. Something in her wanted to smile, yes smile, knowing Tierney wanted anything to do with her idiot of a baby brother. "Tris! You actually came to a dance? I thought after that last... incident... you wouldn't be caught dead at another ball."
"On the contrary, that would be the only way I'd be caught at another ball, or so I thought until a certain someone guilted me into coming without even knowing they were doing it." Tris eyed Andrew and moved to his side, giving him a significant look to say it was all his fault she was there. With a grim expression she took in his attire and tutted, "You look like a prat, Mr. Evans." Slowly, after she gave her words a minute to register, her lips curved upward in a small smile, indicating she was joking with him.
"Are you done hitting on my childhood best friend and future sister-in-law, Andrew? Or must I be forced to endure more of your outdated and ridiculous pickup lines?" Tristise looked between the two, stopping on Tierney as she noted the dismal, but shocked look on her face. "Sister-in-law? How do you figure?" Tristise was so tempted to mention Landon, but instead she merely smirked. "Oh, no matter." She waved it off and pulled Andrew away, "Let's leave Tierney to her business and her... friends... before she hexes me into next year, shall we?"
Maybe coming to this ball wasn't such a bad idea after all. Suddenly Tristise was feeling a lot more like her old self, a lot more sociable than she had in a long time. All because Tierney seemed to actually care about Landon. If anyone could get her baby brother sorted it was Tierney - she'd always had that unique gift. If only the girl could work her magic on the rest of her asinine family.
