"Oh, just hoping for a handsome young man to come and whisk me off my feet!" Andrew caught the girl's eyes flicker around the room as she said this, something he took to mean a certain young man in particular. He was about to comment when the girl blurted out a name at someone behind them. Almost as shocked by the name as the girl sounded, he turned to face the newcomer and was so shocked that he had to take a step backwards to steady himself. Sure Tris wasn't a common name, but a part of him had decided that it was more likely for there to be two Tris's in the school than for his Tris to show up. That was probably the part of him that was stopping him from being disappointed, the part that protected his heart every time they almost, but didn't quite, came closer than just friends.
How typical was it for her to show up at that moment, as he was making a fool of himself. He made a note to ask Tris of the incident the other girl had mentioned, but not until later. "You look like a prat, Mr. Evans." Whether she was being serious, or just teasing, he felt a little hurt. He didn't let it show, instantly replying with "Why thank you, that was just the look I was going for." A smile crossed her lips as he said that, and he added "I was hoping for handsome prat, or at least smart prat, but at least I got half way there." He smiled his cheeky, lop-sided smile at her, letting her know that he was joking too, but he knew that he really did look like a prat.
"Are you done hitting on my childhood best friend?" Just his luck, of all the people for her to catch him flirting with, although they were only friends so there was no harm in him flirting with other people. His heart said otherwise, but that was for different reasons. "I'd say you were jealous, if I didn't know you better!" He teased, "Think yourself lucky that I'm going with the outdated lines, though. I could be using the sort of cheesy lines that third years come out with, at least the older ones have some class." Thankfully Tris only lightly tugged his arm as she tried to pull him away, so he managed to retain his balance. Bowing lightly, he said "A pleasure to meet you Tierney, I hope your handsome young man arrives soon." before quickly allowing himself to be led away, in case Tris decided to get rougher.
"Should I have congratulated her, or offered her my commiserations, I'm never sure." He asked jokingly, once they were out of Tierney's ear shot. "Or going by the shock on her face, did I just discover the reason I've been seeing less of you?" He added to make sure, hoping with every inch of his soul that it wasn't the third option. He hadn't been paying enough attention to see rings on Tierney's fingers, and he glanced at Tris's hands to check, but her grip on his arm stopped him seeing if there were any or not. Tris was smiling more than the last time he had seen her, but that could be explained by either finding someone or something going right with her family for a change.
When they reached an area of a table which had empty seats all around, he took hold of the wrist which was holding his arm with his free hand, placed his other hand on her back and gently guided her to a seat. The maneuver looked more like a dance move than anything, but it was so subtle that no one was now close enough to have noticed it. It might irritate Tris, after all he could have asked for them to sit there and she probably would have done so, but he didn't mind facing small amounts of her wrath from time to time. "You look stunning, by the way." He said as he waited for her to take a seat, then sat down in the seat next to hers.
There was so much he wanted to ask her about, family updates, the incident Tierney had mentioned, although he guessed that had been the attack during the masquerade ball, other general catching up, but it was such a change to see her happy, that he decided to leave that until a lot later. For now he would enjoy her company, and he was about to mention the dance he had promised her, when Anna stood up and gave her speech. He remained quiet during it, even though it dragged on a little, but went straight back into conversation with Tris when she finished, even in the midst of chaos as the food started to appear. The helpings seemed to be big enough to consist of an entire meal per course, so when Andrew noticed that no food had appeared in front of Tris, he slid his bowl between the two of them.
"You'll be wanting to eat something before the dancing starts." He said, "We'll both need the energy by the end of the night. No complaining either, if you didn't get my warning then it's the useless first year's fault for not delivering it properly." He passed Tris his soup spoon, then picked up his desert spoon, trying to work out how he was going to share one set of cutlery between two people. His sisters would have killed him if they'd seen his table manner that evening, but he didn't care. He was far more interested in the way the star light from the ceiling was being reflected in Tris's eyes, and hoping that there would be a slow song later to give them an excuse to dance close together. He closed his eyes for a second, looking down at the soup bowl before daring to open them again, and started to eat some of it, trying to clear those thoughts from his mind. It wasn't that they were unwelcome, he just didn't want Tris to hear them, if she was having trouble blocking other people's thoughts from her mind at the time.

Congratulations or commiserations... yeah, Tristise had to wonder that too. Commiserations for sure, she decided, since Tierney was still engaged to Lucian. Tris had to wonder how much longer that would last. If it went on much longer she might have to get involved and put an end to it herself. When Andrew mentioned the comment perhaps alluding to why he'd seen less of her recently she almost smirked, "I'd say you were jealous if I didn't know you so well!" She joked, throwing his words back at him.
"It is actually the reason you haven't seen as much of me recently, but not for the reasons you implied. I haven't been around much because my baby brother broke my heart like the callous asshole he has the tendency to be. I'm here now and in a better mood because I'm pretty sure I just found out something about him that I thought had changed a long time ago." She leaned a little closer and whispered, "It's quite obvious that Tierney is head over heels for him still... or again, whatever. I'm pretty sure though that the fact she was looking around for him means she expects him to show up and see her which means he's definitely head over heels for her too. I suppose I could be wrong and it could just be wishful thinking on Tierney's part, but I'd like to hope for the best."
"Of course even if it is true there's still the matter of Tierney's idiot fiance and Landon's bitch of a girlfriend. Ugh, I honestly have this urge to rip Victoria's face off whenever I see her around the school. Landon might be an asshole and I might have sort of disowned him, but deep down I still can't stand to see him being played for a fool or attaching himself to such vacuous whores." Tristise frowned briefly and then sighed before taking the proffered spoon and idly fiddling with it instead of eating.
She really wasn't hungry and she didn't really need the energy. She didn't even intend on staying long at the dance because despite the possible good news she had acquired, she still didn't like people or being around them. "I got your so-called warning, the poor first year actually found me and handed it to me personally. She was shaking like mad. I didn't think I had that bad of a reputation." Tristise shrugged and waved it off. If she had that bad of a reputation then good, it meant it was less likely she'd be bothered by anyone but fools. "Why do you bother coming to these stupid dances anyway? There's no point to them and they aren't exactly that exciting. Well unless you count the midsummer one where the school got attacked, half the professors turned out to be evil, and people were killed and maimed. Other than that though, pretty standard bore fests."

Andrew had to smile when he heard his own words used against him, but he felt relieved as Tris began to explain the situation to him. She knew him well, but not well enough. The truth was he was jealous, or at least he would have been if there had been someone else, however he would never have said anything, or let it show. It showed that he had been lost track of her family's goings on, as a hint of confusion appeared in his expression at mention of Victoria. He could understand why she would want to rip the girl's face off, but he had no idea who the girl was. He decided to just sit and listen rather than attempt to console her; it was usually the better option, and he had no idea what to say anyway.
Talk of her family, as always, removed the smile from Tris's face. He hated it when that happened, but at least this time he hadn't brought it up, and thankfully it wasn't gone for long. "I didn't think I had that bad of a reputation." The first year's fear may have been his doing a little, "Well I did practically ambush her, they never sit still long enough for you to talk to them otherwise. Plus if I'd found someone with a spine they'd probably have insisted on me paying them." he joked, although he could understand anyone being scared of Tris. He knew her well enough to knew her limits, mostly, but he also knew that she could tare him apart if she was really pissed. Anyone who didn't know her so well, but was aware of either her lycan heritage or her short fuse, would probably be terrified of breathing too loud while in the same room.
"They may not be exciting, but at least this one put a smile back on your face." He replied, slowly eating the soup to give Tris plenty of time to help herself, "Besides, it's our last year, so we should be making the most of it." He was now fairly certain that the Midsummer ball was the one that Tierney had mentioned, "I wish I'd been there, it sounded like a blast," he said, half sarcastically. He did wish he'd been there, so he could have protected Tris, although if he'd said that he would have got a kick. She definitely did need him to protect her, and he knew it. If he had been there it probably would have ended up with her protecting him, while he looked after the rest of the school. Dark Wizards and Death Eaters he could handle, and had multiple times; creatures were a lot stronger and faster, and he had no experience of fighting them.
"I'll tell you what, if you stay for the first few songs, and try to enjoy yourself, then we can go and find something exciting to do afterwards." He offered, then deciding that she might need a little more convincing added, "or if you'd rather I can tie you to a chair and make you suffer my singing? Karaoke's supposed to be fun, right?" His face spread into a broad grin as he said that, the threat so ridiculous that he couldn't keep a straight face. He wasn't serious with it, at all, although there was a small part of him that worried she might take him up on the offer, if she decided that watching him humiliate himself was worth staying at the ball for longer than she had to.

Miranda was more then just excited, she was fanatic about the ball. She did not have a date, but neither did her sister, they where going together, at least showing up together, they figured they would get into their own clicks once there. She was so glad they had it open to all Hogwarts, it would be a real drag if the dance was going on and she was in her common room studying, well if she actually did study that is. Purple baby! No, Minerva was going with purple, and pink was so overrated. So Miranda decided on a color of yellow and green, she was not overly pale, so it really looked nice. ( Dress here) Strapless was not her favorite, but it looked so nice on. She kept her hair up, a few curls falling down. And some light yellow eye shadow. She arrived and a rather pink girl went on and on with the person before her she slipped a tag and snuck past her. She mingled for a while as she wondered about, just before she headed to the tables she signed up for the karaoke. Not that she was all that excited about it, but it was worth a try, she was not scared to do it, but what she was going to sing, well… Food was good, she picked and ate only a little, not wanting to get fat nor get a cramp in her stomach. She was a bit nervous, but she was making some conversations around her. Perhaps she was going to get the eye of one of the boys in her year…

ooc: (So I have the idea that Janet may have a music career after Hogwarts, So I would really like some positive feedback for her. Not saying everyone has to like it, but a few would e great, thanks!)Janet had finished her course, and the time was getting to be her moment, wonderful… Why did she need a moment? She was indeed more nervous then she had ever been. This was not like a battle she was to prepare for, she had a wondering mind that she had not forgotten about Matt, but she was slightly out of sorts. Something not like her. “Great.” She said noting the time. “I am not looking forward to this very much.” She said getting up and doing the dead man walk to the stage. She may have looked lovely, like a young girl but who knew what was beneath. “I hope everyone had a good dinner. The house elves worked partially hard on tonight’s feast, I think they deserve a round of applause.” Janet said, not really feeling it all herself in all honestly. However she rose her hands with a light clap for their work. It was a good meal regardless. “My name is Janet, and I am going to be starting tonight’s karaoke. So be sure to sign up at anytime. I see we have a few names on the list here, so enjoy yourselves and have fun.” Janet said turning to the instruments, they started humming a tune, “I am going to start the night easy, so I hope you all enjoy, his song is called Fern dell…” Janet said going right into the song. As she sang she smiled, and moved with the music, it was a folk song that she enjoyed very much, she was rethinking her song choices still, but that was not well to be thinking about, as the song continued she did little more then think of the words and beat. Once she finished the song she moved right into the next song, keeping the flow going as she smiled as she was going to sing her very own song. (note: Mandy Moore songs)The last song was not super upbeat, but still fun and she hoped that they would get into dancing on the dance floor, as she was just trying to get though the songs. Hoping that whomever had signed up after her was ready and waiting to go up, because she did not want to hesitate, in fact she just wanted to run out with out much more of the night, a strange escape feeling. It was strange, not something she really ever had. The last song was a bit out of her realm, but she went with it. This was a party mix hot on the charts for muggles, and hey, lets face it music was music right? She clapped her hands with the beat, trying to get the others to follow, some did, some avoided it all together. Janet liked singing, she liked being there, but it terrified her that all these people would see her tomorrow, and the next day. They knew her, and while few did not she was putting her face out there as more then the quidditch psycho, but a girly singer. She even did something so unlike her, she used her magic to play the part for her last song her hair turned long, and blonde, ironically that was her real hair. She strangely felt prettier at that moment, but who knew what response this would get? The music stopped, not completely back to the classical sort of rock behind her, she wanted to avoid silence. So the songs melded together a bit. For those who did not know words to songs, looking at the back wall they would appear, however Janet had remembered her songs. “Thank you, and I would like to ask Miranda Vine to the stage next.” She said with a smile, and scooted off hoping not to have to speak to many if anyone. Her heart pounded, it was exhilarating, and horrifying all the same time. Sill afraid of one on one interactions.

Annabelle had been enjoying the fruits of her labor, well that and all the others who had worked on tonight, but at this point it had now turned to Janet, how but the looks of things was nervous. Her speech was short, Anna would have said more, however she did not mind, it was to the point and Janet even offered thanks to the house elves, she thought that was rather cool of her to do.
“YOU ROCK JANET!” she hollered her arm in the air, sure it was out of the blue, but that did not stop her. She knew that she would eventually have to go and sing, and she did not have any good reason to do so. Then again that would lighten things up too, some good and some bad right?
She liked her song choices, and did not feel like dancing to the first to, but did enjoy them. She would have liked Janet to stop a bit in between, but this was Janet’s part of the night, no need to over analyze it. However the third song got her on the dance floor, in hopes others would follow suit. She took the arm of a random person, and started to dance, that was Annabelle for you. She clapped with Janet, hopefully the night would go well.
When the song ended Janet scooted off so quickly Annabelle barely had a chance to have a holler and clap for her. It was a good start, she was excited to see and hear the next person to the mic.
